Can grow to 180ft. Bark on mature trees is dark gray and furrowed. This is not a true fir. The needles are flat and blunt, and not bundled like pines, the cones point downward, not upwards like true firs. New growth is blue.
Cones are very distinctive with three-pronged bracts sticking out between the scales making the tree easy to identify.
